Hockey, Go Go, Good shot!

I realized I haven't talked much about Brendan lately.
I fall more in love with that little man every day.

This past weekend we took him to the bowling alley. Not so much to bowl, but my friend Joyce decided she wanted to celebrate her birthday bowling. And since there were going to be other kids there, I thought why not just take him. So Joyce let him roll of few of her bowls down the lane...her lane had bumpers. Don't ask.

And then today was the mother f'er of all days. Brendan was invited to celebrate his buddy Logan's birthday at Chuckie Cheese's. Never.Again. Ever!

While we were at CC, B stayed home and converted Brendan's crib into a toddler bed. Nap went well. Hopefully STTN will go just as well. He really seems to like it.

Brendan is also obsessed with hockey right now. The kid is bound to go pro in some sport. He literally cried the other night when the ECHL hockey game was over. I had to rewind the tv and replay it. And once again when it was over, he cried. He squeals in delight when it is on and I swear to everything holy, he he says "hockey" and he also says "good shot!" This past week he really started emphasized the "t" in shot. I know he is my kid and all, but is TOO much and SO stinking cute!

He is so smart and understands so much. He can also point out which color is blue. I can't believe that he is going to be 2 years old soon. I have already started planning his birthday party!

He likes to jump, yes, jump, gallop and run around the house like a mad man. I feel like he is obsessed with a lot of things these days. Some of his obsession are:
Hockey
Football
the Camera - thanks Merin
Cars

I'm so glad I took the summer off from working to spend time and watch him grow and learn. He is growing so fast. I also think that me being a working mom, makes me a better mom. I appreciate him more (not that I didn't before), I have more patience with him and I look forward to coming home and getting down on the floor playing cars or horsey with him.

I realize this evening, that I am not that crazy mom I thought I was going to be. I knew I was going to be a good mom...but there are certain things I am so laid back about and B FREAKS out over. I've learned that everything is washable. If it doesn't come out, ya know what, who cares. Now I have a story about why there is a giant chocolate hand print on the couch. Clothing, I buy them cheap enough to not even care if he only wears it once. If he breaks the lamp. Oh well, I will just buy a new one. I don't freak out when he doesn't eat his dinner and tango gets most of it because he thru it on the floor. I want Brendan to know there are rules and boundaries, but at the same time he needs to be a kid and develop an explore.

I try to find a good balance between everything, but in the end, my housework is what suffers most. I wouldn't trade any of it. When Brendan lays down and pats on the floor and says "more" how can I resist that? I mean, what would you rather do? Laundry or play hot wheels? I know it won't last forever and there will come a time when he hates me and wants nothing to do with me.

This is Peanut Butter. He ate it straight from the PB "on the go" cup that he took out of my lunchbox.

Stupid Ass Dental Insurance

I don't even know where to begin. Yes, I do. My Dental insurance sucks balls.

The denied any coverage of my crowns. Reason being: It's not a necessity. Really? Since when did having a healthy mouth not become a necessity? Really, having a full set of teeth isn't necessary.

I really need to cool down before I call these people.

Before I left the dentist this morning and shelled money out of my pocket to cover the luxury item, they were kind enough to look up our file b/c I told the lady that B had a crown put on a few years back. Yup, sure enough he did. The insurance company adjusted it and paid majority of it.

So I ask you this. WTF is so special about B, that he gets his crown paid for and I don't?

ARGH!

Not only do I have that working against me today, the crown they put on two weeks needs to be redone. There is a nice size gap at the bottom between the two teeth and I have to floss every single time I eat. Don't get me wrong, I floss. But it's not so attractive when you are sitting at your desk and someone walks in to ask you a question and you got the floss going on. At least I have good dental hygiene. And I figure if I am paying this out of my own pocket, I better be pretty damn happy with it.

So, I go back in three weeks for round #4. But at this stage in the game, who is keeping track?

Gunpowder and lead

It's not the best picture. I had to make due with what I had since I am sure B2 hid the camera cables on me. This is my VERY FIRST TARGET I shot at.

I will say I am not sure how I feel about the whole gun shooting situation. I don't find it to be something that I would suggest doing on a boring Saturday afternoon. Bowling,sure. Shooting my gat, not so much.

But I do know how to load the mag, cock, aim and shoot. And of course, empty the mag and reload. So it wasn't a total waste of time. And B feels a lot better about having the gun in the house knowing I know everything about it...not to mention, I have a pretty good shot.

I might feel different about the shooting range if next time we go, we rent both lanes. The place is VERY small. And whenever the people in the next line shot their gun, I lost focus and got a little freaked out. Hell, the first time it happened, B was shooting and I thought the gun double fired. Plus, I don't like people judging me. B says no one was judging me...but how would he know. I also felt like maybe the gun was a bit on the large side for my liking. So I am making B take me to Bass Pro Shop to look at the same gun in a "compact" version.

So there you have it. Gun enthusiast, no. Putting lead in your ass if you break in my home, yes.

Short Straw

Somewhere along the way, I believe I pulled the short straw.
Don't get me wrong, I love my life. I love B and I love B2.

But some days, I wish I didn't have to do it all. Maybe it was the full moon, or maybe it's B's cycle. At either rate, I wanted to punch him last night.

Let me start off by stating that B2 is a momma boys. That's just how it is. Some nights he wants NOTHING to do with B. Last night was one of those night.

What got me so irritated was the fact that I bust my hump every day to pick B2 up and get dinner on the table at a reasonable time and not have to listen to B bitch that he is hungry.

I'm pretty sure from here on out it's going to sound like I am just man bashing him, but honestly, I just need to vent about it. I'll be fine and over it in a day or so.

Each and every day consists of the same thing for me. I get up early to get myself ready before B2 wakes up. I get him up, get him dressed and fed. Fight with him to get his hat and coat on and head out the door to drop him off at my ILs. I work all day. Pick B2 up from the ILs. Race home and try to get there before 530. Depending on what I make for dinner will decide if I think B2 needs something more "kid friendly". If so, that means I have to make him dinner, stick him in the chair and try to half watch him half cook dinner for myself and B.

Last night was the grand daddy of all nights. I made B2 his own dinner and put him THREE feet away from B, went into the kitchen to make dinner. B2 was not having any of it. He kept screaming for me and throwing his food. Next thing I hear is "Brendan, sit down. Sit Down. Brendan. Brendan. OMG, sit down." So of course, I realize at that point B is not going to put down his laptop to get up and get B2 out of the highchair. So out into the LR I go. Get him out and of course, he now wants to "help" me make dinner.
Argh!
So of course, after dinner, I have clean up duty. Then I have the whole bedtime routine. And now it is 830 and B is back on STILL ON THE FUCKING computer.

It was just one of those nights.

I guess what pisses me off most is that I get off work at 5. B gets off work at 3. I just think it would be nice for maybe every once in a while B could pick up B2. I mean, seriously, WTF is doing from 330 - 530? Or maybe he could make dinner or at the very least start dinner for me.

Prime example. I go to the gym every Tuesday. With that being said, I always put something in the crock pot. It was beef stroganoff this week. I even put a pot with a bag of noodles in it on the stove. Stupid me thought, oh, B will get the hint and start them, he knows about what time I get home from the gym.
Um, BFN! When I get home I am greeted with "How long till dinner, I am starving."

But what really pissed me off last night was the fact that I got no help whatsoever and then at 9pm, B asks me why I am pissy. AYFKM? At this point I don't even want to fight about it and I just tell him I am irritated and leave it at that. There was no need to make a mole hill out of an ant hill. Speaking of ants, I will have to blog about our ant farm soon.

Hopefully tonight will be better. I'm guessing no, b/c I am going to have a little talk with him about this. But the good thing is, we have dinner with Joyce and Jeff tonight.

If you made it thru all that rambling, great...thanks for staying with me. And now that it's off my chest, I do feel better. Thanks for listening.

Weekend Review

This past weekend was one of the best weekend's I have had in quite some time.

We spent Friday night home as a family. On Saturday we went out to breakfast and made a quick trip to Kohl's. It makes me sick to think I can't find anything on the clearance racks, but if I wanted to pick up a bathing suit or some flip flops, I was in luck. I get that people go away to somewhere warm in the winter, but I think retail is just WAY ahead of themselves. Hell, I saw Easter candy out. Is Easter isn't till the end of April this year...and hello, there is still the Hallmark Holiday, Valentine's Day. There I go again, getting off track.
We came back home b/c B2 needed to take an early nap b/c we had to drop him off at Papa and Nana's house for his overnight stay. I don't know where the afternoon went, but we ended up running late and had to drop B2 off and then scramble. But get this, when we got there, my mom was napping. Whatever.

So we drop him off, hit the highway and head to our massage. My massage was fabulous. B had a different therapist than last time and, well, he's a little sore right now. hehe.

Afterwards, we did a little shopping. I wouldn't call it shopping as we didn't buy anything. We we're striking out left and right. I figured enough was enough and I had ahead for a table at Outback Steakhouse.

After a hour and a half wait, we stuffed ourselves and headed home were B was asleep in the chair by 930 and I found myself on FB. The things you do when you have a kid free day. LOL.

Since B2 stayed the night at Papa and Nana's house, B and I got to sleep in. Ha, that's a joke. The kid has us conditioned that anything after 7am is sleeping in. So of course, we were up and out the door by 9am.

Ran a few more errands for the things we realized we forgot the day before and then headed to the shooting Range. I was going to post about that here, but honestly, that deserve a post all on it's own.

To wrap it up, I had over 24 hours of kid free, good quality husband time. And the best part was, even though we did a lot, it was mostly free b/c we used our GC's from Christmas.

Slacker...or something else?

I don't know what my deal is these days. I just can't seem to get with it.
Everything is lagging behind. The dishes, the laundry, the housework.

I know I was sick last week, but this has been going on for some time now. I feel like a giant lump of laziness and that is so not like me.

Tomorrow is a new day and the start of a new week. I WILL go to the gym on Tuesday. I WILL make it to the grocery store tomorrow and I WILL do at least two loads of laundry tomorrow.

I think now that the holidays and the hustble, I think I just made up a new word....back on track....maybe I am not a slacker, maybe I have too much going on. Am I spreading myself too thin? Is that why I can't remember anything? Crap, see now I forgot what I was even talking about.

So yea, things will all fall into place. Maybe while Brendan is spending some time with Papa and Nana tomorrow, I can sleep in, get some house work done and make it to the store. And while I am at the store, i will load up on fruits and veggies, b/c I feel like my eating habits need to get back on track as well.

I'm a child of the 80's

80's Decade Box Gift Basket - Classic 80's Candy
Let me start out by saying I LOVE candy. Love.it. Sweet, sour, tart, chewy, you name it. Love it.

My fabulous co-worker received this box.
Well guess what? She was NOT a child of the 80s. We had talked about it one day, and of course, I forgot about it. Then one morning I find it sitting on my desk. She and her hubby picked thru the candy and she brought the rest for me.

Check out what was inside waiting for me!

 One of my favorites, Laffy Taffy. I love those stupid little jokes. And this one took me back, candy cigarettes. What the hell were they trying to teach us, that smoking WAS cool? I don't think so! I mean, don't get me wrong, I had my fair share of candy cigarettes, but I preferred the gum cigarette, where they were rolled in white paper and when you gave them a puff, powered sugar came out. Man, I thought I was so cool.

Any who.... I am going to leave you with two jokes today.

Q: How does a Mule open a locked barn?
*
*
*
*
A: With Don-keys!

Q: Why did one skeleton chase after the other?
*
*
*
*
A: Because he had a bone to pick with him.

BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

My light just went dim.

Just when you thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel and you could actually see the light ...45 minutes into what is supposed to be your LAST dental appointment, your dentist discovers the crown doesn't fit. And guess what, that light that was once SO bright, just got a little dimmer. So, the crown has to be sent back. And you get sent home with an incomplete set of teeth.....again.

***sigh***

3 years later and what seems to be adding up to a hell of lot of money, and I have to go back. In two weeks.

But lets look at the positives here. At least the other crown fit.

In the last 3 years, I have had a crap ton of work done. Here is the break down:
* Compacted Wisdom teeth removed
* 18 months of Invisalign
* Bone graft/Sinus Lift
* Schedule Implants
* Get KTFU with B2 - put next surgery on hold
* Implants are now scheduled
* Implants have to heal
* and heal some more - at least the oral surgeon is easy on the eyes
* Get molds made for crowns
* Wait for crowns
* Crowns finally comes in, only one fits
* Reschedule for 2 weeks out

Oh and I suppose you are wondering WHY I have implants and crowns to begin with, ahe? Because the nut job of a dentist I went to years ago jacked these two teeth up and they had to be pulled. And they are my meat eater teeth and I just wasn't happy without them. So I figured, WTH else am I going to do with my insurance money?

Weekend Review

I am shocked that I only posted twice last week. What's up with that? Most have been a slow week.
My weekend over all was BoRiNg! I was hit by the nasty cootie bug going around work. I would love to be able to breath out my nose.

Is it sad that I don't even remember Friday night? And it's not because I partied like a rock star. I think it has something to do with the amount of cold medicine I was taking.

B and I did get some QT, as Brendan went and spent the night with Nana and Papa. We attempted to go to dinner and movie. We had planned on grabbing a quick slice of pizza at Sbarro, but guess what? The damn place is closed. So we did a little window shopping in the freezing ass cold. I think it was 11 degrees. Can anyone tell me why Uggs are so damn expensive? Even on clearance they are $105! For real people, come on now. Back to the story.... As you all know, I LOVE Marky Mark. He is beyond hotness. With that being said, we saw his latest movie, "The Fighter".  Not your normal rags to riches, boxer gone millionare type movie. It's based on a true story.  B wold recommend that you go see it, I recommend that  you wait for it to hit VOD. It was good, not worth my movie pass or spending my own actual money on....but then again, it was Marky Mark....

I had a USMC cake to make this weekend. I'll post pics of that later.

I cleaned out the junk drawer. You have no idea how long that has been driving me nuts. I hate clutter. I hate junk. I hate not being able to find anything. B kept putting so much crap in that drawer, it was falling out the backside. I think he is sad the drawer is no more. It's not the drawer isn't there, it's just organized. And I promised him that if I find anything that doesn't belong there, I am throwing it away no questions asked. Then I proceeded to tell him he was like his father in the respect that he won't throw anything away and sooner or later one of them is going to end up on hoarders. LOL.

I leave you with this:

Attention Kroger Shoppers

I can not make this stuff up. This is the kind of stuff that just happens.

Last night while I was at Kroger doing my weekly grocery shopping, I hear this over the loud speaker.
"Attention Kroger shoppers, if you drive a gold Grand Am, license plate # ------, would you please move your car. You are parked in the cart corral and we cannot retrieve carts for our other Kroger shoppers. Thank you."

I stood in the isle and said out loud "stupid asses". Seriously, WTF does that? Was the parking lot crowded? Sure. But does that give any one good reason to park where they did? How does one even fit their car there? Suck it up and park out in the boonies like I did.

I went home and told B about it. We laughed for a few minutes and he says I can never go to Kroger without coming home with some sort of story. It's true. Something interesting always happens when I am out shopping.

Weekend Review

I have SO much to talk about today.

The Browns: After yesterday EMBARRASSING loss to the Shitsburgh Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach, Eric Mangini has been fired at this mornings team meeting. You have no idea how happy this makes me. I am hoping and prayer that they hire John Gruden. If this happens, you bet I will be looking into season tickets. Gruden and Peyton Hillis... HOT STUFF!

My BFF ( I know, I am not supposed to use that word anymore) Joyce got engaged over the weekend. I am over the moon happy for her! It's been a long time coming. But now when she asks me when I am going to have another baby, I don't have my "when are you going to get married" question to throw back at her. She tells me I have a year to save up for a ugly bridesmaid dress. I say screw the dress, when is the bachlorette party.

All the holiday festivities are over and I am glad to be back to a full working week, with a full paycheck on the way. This 24 hours and 32 hours crap is for the birds. I have bills to pay people. My least favorite this time of year is getting the dog licenses renewed. Seriously, $25 per dog. I will be glad when I can get back to my normal workout schedule. Being as I will be wearing a BM dress with in the next year. I refuse to look as horrible and fat as I did in Nicole's wedding. But if anything, those pictures are what keep me motivated.

Totally off topic, but listening to people scarf down eat their lunch drives me batty. I can't stand to hear people chew their food to begin with. But when I can hear the person in the cube next to me eat as thou they haven't ate in 2 drives, make me want to stab myself in the ear. And the constant scrapping of the yogurt container, give it up....it's gone! That's almost as bad as the people who insist they can get more out of the straw when the beverage they were drinking is gone.

Oh, BTW, Happy 2011! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Let's talk common sense

I swear some people did not come equipped with common sense.

Do people NOT pay attention to what is going on around them?

Citation #1: People down the street put their trash AND recycling out. Problem with that is, it was not our week to recycle. Did they not realize they were the only people on the entire block with a BLUE bin out? Common sense would you tell since no one else has a blue bin out, its not recycle week.

Citation #2: People down the other direction of the block have their Christmas tree at the curb. Do you see anyone else on the block with a tree at the curb. I am sure they saw the news or even listed to the radio that specifically said the City of Toledo Refuse Service was NOT picking up trees curb side, but there were however, several locations were you could drop you tree off.

Citation #3: Girls at the gym who talk on their cell phones while "working out". Seriously? Seriously. I know when I am working out I can talk, but I can not carry on a conversation. If you can carry one a conversation without having a hard time breathing, you are not working out to your full potential. Hang up the phone and kick it up a notch.

Dusting off the blog!

I've decided to get back into blogging! YEA! I know you are all so excited....I know I am.

I thought about changing the name, but I decided to keep Baby Cakes. Instead of just writing about Brendan, I decided to write about all things.

So stay tuned. As always, I have lots to talk about.
